■个体名词
所谓个体名词就是指表示人或物的个体的名词。如boy, girl, tree, book, cup, desk等。在通情况下，个体名词都是可数的。如：
There is a book on the desk. 书桌上有一本书。
We have two children, a boy and a girl. 我们有两个孩子，一个男孩和一个女孩。
■物质名词
物质名词指的是无法分为个体的事物，如air, sand, meat, wine, paper, ink, gas, water, wood等。在通常情况下，物质名词是不可数的。如：
Air and water are necessary to life. 空气和水是生命所必需的。
Most of us probably eat too much meat. 我们大多数人都吃太多的肉了。
■叫抽象名词
抽象名词用于表示性质、行为、状态、感情等抽象概念，如age, money, failure, work, music, courage, joy等。抽象名词绝大多数是不可数的。如：
Money isn’t everything. 金钱不是一切。
Failure is the mother of success. 失败是成功之母。
Loud music drives me crazy. 喧闹的音乐吵得我要命。
We jumped with joy to hear the news. 听到这消息我们高兴得跳了起来。
