芦芽山自然保护区山西省动植物及生态环境完整的生物生态系统综合保护区。位于北纬38°35′40″～38°45′,东经111°50′～112°5′30″。在山西省五寨县境内1980年建立自然保护区。保护动物以褐马鸡为主，植物为华北落叶松、云杉次生林等各类植物群系。面积2.15万公顷，其中核心区0.56万公顷。华北落叶松林、云杉(主要是青杄)林是山西省天然分布最多,生长较好的森林,在华北地区和全国均具典型作用。林区内食草、食肉动物聚集，可保持生态平衡。芦芽山以太古界片麻状花岗岩为主，上层部分有石灰岩。全区西北高、东南低。西有荷叶坪、北有芦芽山、黄草梁等著名山峰。区内地形复杂，沟壑纵横，高差1400多米。较大的沟有梅洞沟、圪洞沟、高崖底沟。自下而上。植被分为：① 海拔1300～1600米是灌丛草原及农垦带。②1600～1800米是常绿针叶林及针阔叶混交林带。③1800～2600米是针叶林带。④2600米以上为亚高山灌丛和亚高山草甸。
